Importing HR data

March 25, 2016

What’s the hardest job when you decide on a new HR system? Funnily enough, it’s not the headache of choosing the right software, or the hardware to run it on.   If you’re a very small organisation, your employee data may be held in files or record cards, and you’ve got to key it all into the computer.  That can be a lengthy business and the need for accuracy will be paramount.  And if you’re a larger company with HR data in spreadsheets or an old payroll system, it may look like an impossible task.  The effort involved in importing HR data from an existing system puts some people off even considering changing.

But if you’ve got any employee data in a computerised system at all – like a records system, or an old payroll, ezyHR has an Import Wizard module which can collect data from those systems, and use it to populate its database.  You can get rid of the major grunt work at a stroke!

The ezyHR Import Wizard is simplicity itself to use.  Collect all your existing employee data into a spreadsheet and start the Wizard.  You’ll be prompted to select fields from your spreadsheet, and transfer them to the equivalent ezyHR field, by dragging and dropping (this process is called ‘mapping’).  Bear in mind that you probably won’t be able to map every single field, because there’ll be differences in the data types, but you should be able to collect the vast majority.  When your mapping is complete, you only have to start the import and your data will be transferred.  Just another example of how ezyHR can make your life easier!

I hope you’ll find the Import Wizard useful.  If I haven’t made the process as clear as I’d hoped, let me know.  If you’d like to see the User instructions, just email with ‘Import Instructions’ in the title of the email and we’ll send you a copy.  If you’ve got any specific questions about HR or our products, you can email me at the support address above.

Questions and comments are always welcome.
